Looks like I'm moving to Alaska hah! But seriously, these are all great options if you want to pay a little less throughout your lifetime.

I know Michigan for the most part is pretty low on taxes, aside from their 6 cent sales tax (non-food), it's pretty cheap to live there for the most part.

Have you ever seen what you could get in terms of property here? IT IS INSANE! My husband was looking on Trulia the other day at some properties. You can get a nice house with over 10 acres of land for under 200k!

California 13.3%

Why would anyone want to live there? LOL

I heard that they tax the crap out of everything and there are so many homeless people they are pooing in the streets. It sounds like it is only worth living there if you are super rich otherwise you get taxed to death and end up poor, if not homeless.

I do not understand why they live there either. I was raised in California and have no intentions of every moving back. It is a great state to visit but the things going on there is not something I would want to live through. Such a high cost of living, high taxes, high crime, high homelessness, horrible schools... You have to wonder where all those tax dollars are going 😕

I recently heard that over 75% of black students in school are reading way below the standard level as well. Their schools systems not only suck but they are hurting black children growing up there. What a mess! I thank God I was not raised in that state and have no reason to live there. Lucky you got out when you did. Could you imagine raising kids there? The weather is great and the beaches are probably beautiful but that is all it has going for it anymore.

The education system though I think is messed up in a lot of places.

I have a child that has some trouble in school with reading and math. My wife and I work very hard to make sure to use repetition to help him remember concepts and are constantly trying to sneak in extra work he does not see as work.

Sometimes though I feel like the school should hold him back another year and let him catch up instead of just shoving him through the system. As he gets older and they just keep pushing him through without a full understanding of the concepts that he needs to know.

I do not understand why the system thinks just pushing people through is the answer...

I understand people learn at different paces and in different ways. The school provides a full support system for the student to help them work through it but overtime all the blocks that needed to be built to do something if they are not there it will lead to poor output in the long run.

Then again if I read the media they would say here in Arizona we have horrible schools. My oldest kids are both in AP classes and my high school student is already earning college credits.

The child has to want to learn to for it all to work so I do not know what the solution is. I try hard to keep my students in the public education system because I want them to be around those kinds of people and do not want them to start hanging out with a bunch of entitled rich kids. Luckily we get pick the public school our children go to even if it is outside of our "zone" so we look around for the best fit for the child.

I will be at a parent teacher conference in a couple of hours for our school challenged child. I know the teacher does not have much say in what happens as they are just doing their jobs as directed by a school board but it will be nice to voice some of my concerns about the advancement of the child.

There are a lot of places within states that have lower tax rates and property tax rates. It just depends on the kind of life you want to live. You will get more for less living out in the country but you will need to drive an hour or more just to do weekly shopping at the grocery store. Also shipments cant take a long time to get to you.

I'm kinda tempted to move to Las Vegas now haha! But knowing me, I would end up going to the casinos a little too much. Maybe that's why it's so cheap to live there, helps draw more people in to the casinos maybe?

One of my favorite towns. It has gotten much more expensive to live in Vegas then it used to be. A lot of big industry out there now to get into. Slowly turning into a distribution hub for shipping then of course you have the full service industry. At one point we were going to move there too when the plan was to work upwards in hospitality management. The huge risk with the Vegas area is if we fall into a heavy depression it will not be a place anyone will want to live as a majority of the jobs are supported by people's disposable income.
