Do you go out of your way to save?

Generally do you have a "save first" mindset or a "save what remains" mindset?

Invest first with discretionary spending always coming second to that. 

I like money out there working building more money over spending my cash on other things.

I usually save what remains. I like to make sure my bills are paid and I have everything I need first. I don't want to save at the expense of living without something I need.

I'm more of the frugal mindset. I don't like to spend money very often, so I often end up saving it in turn. I used to be into shopping, but when you realize you don't need all of the stuff you want, you start to spend your money on practical stuff instead.

I make a point to always have a minimum of $200 each month to put aside. I like it to be $500+ but sometimes I have to go a bit lower if it is around the holiday season or something goes wrong with my car. I guess I do a bit of both.

My husband and I started working on our savings about 3 years ago. Between the two of us, we have managed to save almost 20k. We would like to be able to have a good 150k saved up prior to my husband retiring but this depends on how the economy goes. He will have a 401k coming as well, assuming that holds!
