Yard Sales - Worth trying?

I was thinking of a way to make some extra income and a friend told me the woman down the street from her has yard sales every single month of the year. She does it for 4 days of the month, usually the 3rd weekend of each month unless holidays fall around those times she will skip it or move it. What she does is buys clearance items in store and online and sells it in her yard sales. In the winter, she will have the sale happen in her large barn that has heating so it functions as a small shop.

I would have never considered doing a yard sale like this. Is it worth it?

Sure, a lot of people do this. But they don't stop at yard sales, they probably also have their own online stores, as well may even bring items to flee markets. I wouldn't doubt this woman you speak of does all of that and then some. Usually people who do this, find deals and keep at it, and find ways of maximizing profits by doing as many kinds of sales as possible.

I would ask your friend if this woman has a website where she sells stuff. I'm curious.

But yeah, I say it's worth it if you have enough product that will entice people in. But you need stuff that are guaranteed buys.

If you could have a constant supply of things to sell that actually do sell, then go for it! It really can't hurt. It is a lot of work though to have them every month like that. I have one every other year just to clear out old stuff. Some family and a few friends bring their stuff over as well so the place looks more filled up.

Nothing wrong with having a little hustle to add some $$$ to the piggy bank. Plenty of people do things like this. Go down to any flea market and look at the products that are for sale.

As long as you know the value of products you are selling you will know when you are getting a good deal on the buy side and the sell side.

My mother's neighbor does this. I think she only does it in the warmer months though, not year round. She will use coupons and buy items at stores for cheap and resell them. So she will get like a $3 bottle of toothpaste for like 30 cents and sell it at her sale for $1.50 and make a profit of $1.20 which is pretty good. I don't know how she does with with coupons nor if it is technically legal but she gets a lot of shoppers showing up every day she does one.
