Ella
Divorce rares have gone up by a lot just in the last 20 years. I read that 50% of first time marriages end in divorce, 60% of second marriages end in divorce, and a whopping 74% of third marriages end in divorce. In 2020, they were quite bad but since then they have appeared to be going down. What do you think is causing the decrease in divorces right now and do you think this trend will continue?
James
Likely just a temporary decrease due to the court systems shutting down for covid 😛. I hope the return to the value of having a strong family unit is coming back around and I hope people are giving more thought to who they marry and why. It is shocking that so many marriages end in divorce. I have not been through a divorce myself and my wife of 10+ years tells me its forever unless one of us cheats on each other. Otherwise we are ready for the long haul and whatever that brings. I think people should likely spend more time together and live together for a few years before getting married which is supposed to a long term commitment not some fly by night idea.
Sophia
Yeah I was going to mention it was likely down to issues with courts... But it appears that 2020 still had high rates. Maybe this allowed some couples who were heading that direction to rekindle their relationship. Ya know, being stuck at home with each other and all.
Scarlett
They likely went down because of delays and people not wanting to have to deal with vaccinations, masks, and other restrictions so they just put it off. It is not unheard of for people to decide to divorce and not actually do it for years. My brother was dating a woman who was not divorced yet and she had been separated from he husband (physically) for 4 years.
Yonder
This is surprising actually, I thought with domestic abuse going up Divorce would go up as well.
